Samuel James Tilden Sheckard (November 23, 1878 – January 15, 1947) was an American left fielder in Major League Baseball who played for the Brooklyn Bridegrooms/Superbas, Baltimore Orioles (NL), Baltimore Orioles (AL), Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and Cincinnati Reds. Making his debut at the age of 18 late in 1897, he played in three separate stints for the team (1897–1898, 1900–1901, 1902–1905). In his one season with Baltimore in 1899, he led the National League in stolen bases with 77. Back with Brooklyn in 1900, he won the National League pennant with the team. In 1903, he led the league in stolen bases with 67 and home runs with nine while batting .332. He landed with the Chicago Cubs in 1906 and wound up playing in the World Series four times in a five-year span (1906, 1907, 1908, 1910), which saw the Cubs win in 1907 and 1908; he was the leadoff batter in the final game of the 1908 World Series, the last won by the team for 108 years. He spent his final season with the Cardinals and Reds in 1913. When he retired, he was one of just sixteen players with 2,000 games played in MLB history and second in walks with 1,135.
